For nearly three decades, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) Hospital in Kaduna has provided free medical services to residents, especially women, children and vulnerable people who struggle to afford healthcare.

However, the hospital has now received a major boost after Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani donated an ambulance to improve emergency response and strengthen its medical services.

The ambulance was presented to FOMWAN Kaduna State Chapter on Wednesday in Kaduna by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos.

Mamman Lagos said the donation reflected Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of residents and complement government efforts in delivering essential services.

He commended FOMWAN for sustaining free healthcare services for years, describing the organisation as an important partner in improving access to medical care for the people.

The Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Senior Secondary School Education Board, Dr. Suwaiba Shehu Ibrahim, said the ambulance would strengthen the hospital’s ability to attend to emergencies and provide better services to patients.

She noted that the FOMWAN Hospital, located along Katuru Road in Kaduna, had remained dedicated to helping residents through its free medical programmes.

Ibrahim urged the organisation to maintain the ambulance properly and ensure it was used responsibly so that more people could benefit from the gesture.

“My advice to them is to maintain it, make judicious use of it and make sure it is kept clean and in proper condition all the time, so that it can continue to serve the people,” she said.

Receiving the ambulance on behalf of FOMWAN, the Kaduna State President of the organisation, Hajia Nafisat Musa Isah, described the donation as a historic moment for the hospital.

Isah said FOMWAN marked its 40th anniversary in 2025 but had never received such support from any government, adding that the ambulance would help the organisation respond faster to medical emergencies.

She explained that the vehicle would enable the hospital to extend assistance to more residents, especially those who cannot afford healthcare costs.

The FOMWAN president appreciated Governor Uba Sani for the support and assured that the ambulance would be properly maintained and used to serve the people.

She added that the gesture would encourage the organisation to continue its humanitarian work and expand its free medical services across Kaduna State.
