Troops battling terrorist groups in Sokoto State have dealt a fresh blow to armed criminals after killing two terrorists and recovering weapons, ammunition and motorcycles during clearance operations.
The operation, carried out by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other equipment believed to support terrorist activities.
The Nigerian Army said the operations were conducted on October 15 by troops of the Joint Task Force North-West as part of efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorists in the region.
According to the Army, troops first engaged terrorists at Waria Forest, where a gun battle broke out and one terrorist was neutralised.
The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items from the scene after the encounter.
In a separate operation at Sarma Village, soldiers engaged another group of terrorists, killing one while others escaped with injuries.
During a search of the area, troops recovered two additional AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, a communication device and six motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The Army said the recovery of the weapons and motorcycles would weaken the movement and operational capacity of terrorist groups operating in the area.
Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across the North-West.
He urged residents to remain alert and provide security agencies with useful information on suspicious activities, while appreciating their continued support in the fight against insecurity.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued sustained operations across the North-West as troops intensify efforts to push back terrorist groups and improve security in affected communities.
