Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake online voter registration website being circulated on social media, warning that it is designed to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The electoral umpire issued the warning in a statement shared on its verified X account on Saturday, saying the website falsely claims that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is scheduled to run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC dismissed the claim as false and made it clear that the website has no connection with the Commission.
“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the website below is FAKE and has no affiliation whatsoever with INEC,” the Commission said.
It warned Nigerians not to click on the fraudulent link or submit any personal information, noting that doing so could expose them to identity theft and other forms of cyber fraud.
According to the Commission, “Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused.”
INEC further reminded Nigerians that the last nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, stressing that there is currently no fresh online registration exercise.
“The voter registration exercise closed on 26th July 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above mentioned website is false,” the Commission added.
The electoral body urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify all election-related information through its official communication channels, including its website, news portal, verified social media platforms and designated contact centres.
The warning comes as INEC continues efforts to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process by combating misinformation and fraudulent activities capable of misleading voters and compromising their personal information.
