Many young Nigerians hoping to serve in the Army may soon have a chance to gain international military training.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said Nigeria is working with Rwanda to improve the training of future Army officers.
He spoke during a visit to the Rwanda Military Academy as part of his official trip to strengthen defence ties between both countries.
The Army Chief said today’s
security challenges require officers who are well trained, disciplined and ready for modern warfare.

He praised the Academy for its high standards, professionalism and impressive Special Forces demonstration.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the Academy to prepare for the first batch of Nigerian officer cadets under the proposed exchange programme.
He said both countries can learn from each other’s experience in fighting terrorism and other security threats.

A representative of the Academy, Brigadier General Bukenya, said the institution trains cadets in leadership, military tactics, logistics and peace support operations.
He welcomed the planned partnership and promised the Academy’s support for closer military cooperation with Nigeria.
If implemented, the exchange programme could give young Nigerian officers new skills and better prepare them to protect the country against emerging security threats.
