A simple moment between a man and his neighbour’s child has reportedly ended in tragedy in Mowe, Ogun State, after a 38-year-old man, identified as Mike Oje, allegedly died following a violent attack.
Oje was said to have been hugging and playing with the three-year-old child when the child’s father reportedly took offence, accusing him of engaging in what he described as “rough play.”
The disagreement reportedly escalated, attracting the attention of some residents, who allegedly joined in the confrontation and attacked Oje with a bamboo stick.
According to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim collapsed during the alleged assault due to the seriousness of the injuries he sustained.
Babaseyi said Oje later died from the injuries, adding that the suspect reportedly fled the area with his family after realising what had happened.
The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to locate the suspect, who was believed to be hiding in an unknown location.
As investigations continue, residents are waiting for more details on what exactly led to the fatal confrontation and how the incident unfolded.
