Portugal wants Ronaldo back despite suspension

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension by Portugal after leaving the national team camp without permission.

The Portuguese Football Federation also fined the 41-year-old captain €255 over the incident.

The punishment followed a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus after Ronaldo was left on the bench against Norway.

He later left Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen before the team’s Nations League match against Denmark.
Ronaldo accepted responsibility and admitted that no player is above the rules of the national team.

This means Ronaldo could still feature against Denmark on November 14 and Wales three days later if selected.

However, the suspension is expected to end on October 30, before Portugal’s November international matches.

The incident has also raised fresh questions about Ronaldo’s relationship with Jesus and his future role in the Portugal squad.
