Nigeria is seeking stronger military cooperation with Denmark as part of efforts to improve the fight against terrorism, banditry and other emerging security threats.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made the call while receiving Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Ole Bach Hansen, and Defence Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Henrik Laugesen, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

The Army Chief said closer cooperation would boost intelligence sharing, modern military training and technology-driven operations.

He explained that stronger partnerships would help improve the operational capacity of troops, especially in the North-East and North-West.

Shaibu identified tactical training, border surveillance, force protection and professional military education as key areas for collaboration.

He also stressed that the welfare, training and career development of soldiers remain critical to maintaining a motivated and combat-ready force.

Ambassador Hansen assured Nigeria of Denmark’s readiness to expand defence cooperation beyond maritime security to direct engagement with the Nigerian Army.

He praised the courage and resilience of Nigerian troops and described security as essential for economic growth and national development.

The Danish envoy also expressed condolences to the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to a stronger defence partnership with Nigeria.

The meeting ended with both countries expressing confidence that deeper military cooperation would improve national security and contribute to peace and stability across the region.
