Residents of parts of Sokoto State have received fresh hope after Nigerian troops raided a Lakurawa terrorist hideout in Waria Forest and drove the fighters away.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, during a clearance mission in Tangaza Local Government Area.
The soldiers moved through Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages before reaching the forest where the terrorists were hiding.
A fierce gun battle broke out as the troops confronted the fighters inside the camp.

The troops overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their hideout and flee deeper into the forest.
Some of the fleeing fighters were killed during the pursuit by the advancing soldiers.
The troops later destroyed the terrorists’ camps to prevent them from returning to the area.
They also recovered weapons and five motorcycles believed to belong to the Lakurawa group.
Security forces have continued operations in the forest to stop the fleeing terrorists from regrouping or threatening nearby communities.
The latest raid is part of ongoing military efforts to clear terrorist enclaves and improve security across Nigeria’s North West.
