Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun early preparations for the 2027 general elections by inaugurating a logistics committee.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the goal is to ensure election materials reach every polling unit on time across the country.

He stressed that no Nigerian should lose the opportunity to vote because of delays in delivering sensitive materials.

The committee, led by National Electoral Commissioner, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, will coordinate the movement of election materials by road, air and sea.

It will also identify logistical challenges and recommend practical solutions before the elections.

Amupitan said the committee will work closely with the military, security agencies, transport unions and other government institutions.

Abubakar-Sadiq described election logistics as the backbone of credible elections and public confidence in the electoral process.

She disclosed that the Central Bank of Nigeria will handle the storage and distribution of sensitive election materials through its nationwide branches.

The committee is expected to submit recommendations and clear timelines to improve election preparedness across the country.

Representatives of security agencies, transport operators and other key stakeholders attended the inauguration, signalling INEC’s determination to avoid the logistical failures that have affected past elections.
