The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over recent personnel changes within key departments of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly the Electoral Operations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) units.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said it was seeking clarification over reported transfers involving officials occupying sensitive positions within the commission.

According to the ADC, some personnel from northern states were moved from strategic roles and replaced with officials from Lagos and other South-West states.

The party urged INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to make public the details of the redeployments, including the reasons behind the decisions and the criteria used in selecting officers for the new postings.

The ADC said its concerns were not an accusation of misconduct but a call for openness, stressing that sensitive electoral responsibilities require public confidence and accountability.

The party maintained that transparency in the management of INEC’s internal affairs would help strengthen trust among political parties, stakeholders and the Nigerian electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It added that the credibility of election administration depends largely on the neutrality of officials handling crucial areas such as election operations, technology systems and the management of sensitive electoral materials.

The controversy comes as political parties and civil society groups continue to closely monitor INEC’s preparations for the next general elections.

The ADC said clear explanations from the commission would help address concerns and reassure Nigerians that electoral processes would remain independent, fair and free from political or sectional influence.
